If you’re a fan of the slot machines in your local ‘bricks and mortar’ casino, but would like to play more often, or without having to make the journey to said casino, then why not play the slots online? There is indeed a myriad of excellent online casinos that cater for slots enthusiasts, and just like regular casinos, there are various different types of slots available. Because slots are so popular, new versions and different types of the game keep cropping up all the time, but it’s useful to remember the five or six key ‘categories’ that most of the variations can be filed under. O, firstly, you’ve got your ‘classic slots’, and these are readily available online, and probably the best way of really getting used to the idea of playing slots on the web.

As well as the classics, there’s the ‘5 Reel Slots’, perhaps for the intermediate online player, and after this, there’s the ‘Progressive Slots’, Slots with Bonus Features and Games’, ‘Multi Payline Slots’, ‘Multi Spin’, and ‘Fruit Machines’. However, there’s many more. Before deciding on which type of slot you’re going to play, it’s probably best to do some research into which online casino you’re going to play at, and this is indeed a key decision. As well as the hundreds of excellent online casinos out there, there’s several bad ones, lacking in customer service, and offering a poor selection of slots, so it’s important to choose a good casino. There’s thousands of articles online alluding to highly recommended online casinos, and therefore individuals looking to play slots should dedicate a little of their time into reading such pieces. It’ll be worth it once you find the right casino for you, with good customer service, trusty payment methods, and most importantly, great slot games!

After finding yourself the perfect online casino to play your favourite slot games at, the next step is, quite literally, to get playing! Now, many people go one of two ways once they’ve found their new online home; either they get playing for real cash straightaway (the confident ones!), or they spend time familiarising themselves with the surroundings, and practicing their slots game before playing for cash (some may say the sensible ones!) So, if you find yourself falling into the second category, then maybe it’s best to take advantage of the ‘free play’ option that many leading casinos offer their customers. ‘Free Play’, also known as ‘Practice Mode’ essentially gives individuals the chance to play the slots as normal, without having to play for cash.

It’s a way of practicing and getting used to a certain type of game, or even a certain type of casino, without having to deposit any money into your account. Free play slots work entirely in the same way as free play poker, you’ll play exactly as you would if you were playing with real money. There’s no pressure involved, and you can enjoy the slots safe in the knowledge that you’re building up your experience ready to take on the real slots, for real cash! Because there are essentially hundreds of variations of online slots, it can be tough finding one that you’re comfortable with, and more importantly, one that you enjoy playing, therefore the free play function allows you the chance to try out multiple games and find the right one for you. Sometimes, customers will find that online casinos take your bank details on registration, even if you intend to play in practice mode for a couple of days, or weeks, and this is fine, it simply saves time once you do decide to play for real money (Visit the site for more info).

Early Beginnings

The history of slot machine gambling is as checkered as its impact on modern society. It is a history that moves from the Unites States of America right up to the British Empire, taking in its wake millions of fans and enthusiasts. A man called Charles Fey was credited with creating the first game in the city of San Francisco. Of course that is in modern day California, one of the more liberal states in the United States of America. There is some dispute as to the exact date when the slotting machine was invented. Some camps claim that it was in eighteen eighty seven while others say that it was in eighteen ninety five. No matter what the starting date was, nowadays you will find in the web a huge amount of online slot machines: from the incredible Hulk to Geisha story … 5, 15 or 25 line slots … the problem is just to choose!

What Did The Original Game Play Like?

Those who saw it said that the first game was quite chaotic in its organization and execution. First of all there was an impossibly high number of winning combinations which would not work in the modern game. There were the three spinning wills that define the mechanism. At that time the symbols were name in a fashion that is quite similar to the way we name cards today. For instance they had horseshoes, spades, diamonds and hearts. At the top of the chain was the so called Liberty Bell. This was the principle card token on which the name of the game was based.

The high profits and easy entrance fees made it popular with the people such that even when it was banned, the game of slot machine gambling still held sway amongst the community. Other manufacturers started to imitate then finally to make actual copies of the technology. For those aficionados who wish to explore further the development of the slot machine, it is possible to check the results on the internet and they will in some cases provide a detailed analysis of the growth of this game.

Further Developments beyond the Origin

Although it may appear that the old slot gambling machine bears little resemblance to its modern equivalent, the reality is that all the modern slot machines owe their conception to that early work. In eighteen ninety one, the beginnings of the modern slot machine were introduced. At this time the popular usage of the slot machines were the bars and entertainment centers which provided a steady clientele and cross pollinated users with the bars.

The usage of a fruit machine was born out of the desire to avoid the criminal sanctions that certain legislative jurisdictions which criminalized gambling. The winnings would be offered in the form of food stuff and sweets. When the sheriffs would come to prosecute the establishment, the owner could claim that they were not playing for money and therefore it was not gambling. However the courts soon got round this by claiming that any sort of work on the slot machines involved getting something for nothing therefore it would have to be prosecuted s a case of gambling.

As the technological age has developed, the slot machines have also not been left behind. They have added enhancements such as the automated payment systems and the video interaction.

Why do people love games of chance so much? For the most part, there’s no skill involved at all. Lifting weights and eating your vitamins won’t give you a better chance at winning. A game of chance is just that – chance. Any person can walk away a winner, and any can go home a loser. Although some strategies do apply to a lot of these games, there’s no surefire way to win or gain an advantage. Everyone’s on an equal playing field. Maybe that’s the allure on some level.

So many games in today’s world are highly competitive and involve training, a skill-set, and a passion to win. With a game like slot machines, it’s every man or woman for him or herself. By removing the competitive nature of a game, you’re opening it up to all people and bringing the true essence of a game back. After all, games are supposed to be fun.

When you’re faced with the choice of either winning or being a loser in a competitive game, there’s no thrill with every spin. There’s no suspense while playing. Everything becomes for an ultimate goal or it was all for naught. With a chance game like slots, it becomes a roller coaster of emotion; a fun thrill ride that can be enjoyed for minutes or hours. You set the rules. You start when you want and finish when you want. While you’re playing, it’s your game.

There’s also the taboo aspect for many. From a very young age, we’re taught to spend our money wisely, that money doesn’t grow on trees, and that you’ll never get anything for free. Try as the old, wise ones might, however, they’ve never been able to deter a person deadest or winning that huge progressive jackpot. Part of it could be rebelling against accepted authority, but we know for sure that proving people wrong and winning the unwinnable is always appealing.

As slots move quickly past the digital age and into a future that none of us rightly recognize yet, we’re even more enthralled with them today than when they first arrived on the scene. Today’s slots come in massive variety. From 5 and 7-reel slots revealing a storyline, to slots that sing, play video clips and are able to be personalized, they’re infinitely more interactive in this day and age.

With bigger prizes, more gaming options, and brighter lights with louder bells and whistles, slot machines aren’t going anywhere. They’ll always be king of the casino, online or otherwise.

To get started here’s…

Success Secret #1:

Slots Play Is Serious Business!
For years casinos have ripped off unsuspecting players much like you. Lets face it, losing all of your money every time you play the machines is no fun for you, but the casinos love you. You help to put millions of dollars daily into their coffers! So, here’s…

Success Secret #2:

Players Who Rely On Pure Luck Nearly Always Lose!

Sittman and Pitt of Brooklyn, New York, U.S. developed a gambling machine which was a precursor to the modern slot machine. It contained five drums holding a total of 50 card faces and was based on poker. This machine proved extremely popular and soon many bars in the city had one or more of the machines bar-side. Players would insert a nickel and pull a lever, which would spin the drums and the cards they held, the player hoping for a good poker hand. There was no direct payout mechanism, so a pair of kings might get the player a free beer, whereas a royal flush could pay out cigars or drinks, the prizes wholly dependent on what was on offer at the local establishment. To make the odds better for the house, two cards were typically removed from the deck: the ten of spades and the jack of hearts, which cut the odds of winning a royal flush by half. The drums could also be re-arranged to further reduce a player’s chance of winning.

The first one-armed bandit was invented in 1887 by Charles Fey of San Francisco, California, U.S., who devised a much simpler automatic mechanism. Due to the vast number of possible wins with the original poker card based game, it proved practically impossible to come up with a way to make a machine capable of making an automatic pay-out for all possible winning combinations. Charles Fey devised a machine with three spinning reels containing a total of five symbols – horseshoes, diamonds, spades, hearts and a Liberty Bell, which also gave the machine its name. By replacing ten cards with five symbols and using three reels instead of five drums, the complexity of reading a win was considerably reduced, allowing Fey to devise an effective automatic payout mechanism. Three bells in a row produced the biggest payoff, ten nickels. Liberty Bell was a huge success and spawned a thriving mechanical gaming device industry. Even when the use of these gambling devices was banned in his home state after a few years, Fey still couldn’t keep up with demand for the game elsewhere.

Another early machine gave out winnings in the form of fruit flavoured chewing gums with pictures of the flavours as symbols on the reels. The popular cherry and melon symbols derive from this machine. The BAR symbol now common in slot machines was derived from an early logo of the Bell-Fruit Gum Company. The payment of food prizes was a commonly used technique to avoid anti-gambling laws in a number of states, and for this reason a number of gumball and other vending machines were regarded with mistrust by the courts. The two Iowa cases of State v. Ellis and State v. Striggles are both used in classes on criminal law to illustrate the concept of reliance upon authority as it relates to the axiomatic ignorantia juris non excusat. In these cases, a mint vending machine was declared to be a gambling device due to the fact that by (internally manufactured) chance the machine would occasionally give the next user a number of tokens exchangeable for more candy. Despite the fact that the result of the next use would be displayed on the machine, both courts ruled that “The inducement for each play was the chance that by that play the machine would be set to indicate that it would pay checks on the following play. The thing that attracted the player was the chance that ultimately he would receive something for nothing. The machine appealed to the player’s propensity to gamble, and that is [a] vice.”

In 1964, Bally developed the first fully electromechanical slot machine called Money Honey. The new electromechanical approach allowed Money Honey to be the first slot machine with a bottomless hopper and automatic payout, of up to 500 coins, without the help of an attendant. The popularity of this machine led to the increasing predominance of electronic games, and the side lever soon became vestigial.

The first video slot machine to offer a second-screen bonus round was Reel ‘Em In developed by WMS Industries Inc. in 1996.

The aim of the game is to spin the reels and match the winning symbols across the payline. This in theory sounds simple, except for one thing. Slot machines are totally random. There are also many mtyhs going around that certain slot machines pay more depending where they are situated. Like the theory that most land based casinos will place a machine that pays out more often than most by the entrance so people hear the noise of winners and get enticed in. The fair assumption is most land based casinos will play music or sounds that sound like coins falling into the winning tray to entice you in. This tactic is common knowledge amongst most professional gamblers.

How does this apply online ? It doesn’t, because slot machines use (RNG) Random Number Generators to decide who and what gets paid when. These RNG’s are running hundreds of thousands of winning and losing combination codes every second. The ratio of winning combinations to losing ones as you may expect is very small indeed. Its said you have more chance of winning the lottery

Standard deviation slot machine strategy

The most famous slot strategy “standard deviation” is where you play only equal ratio slot machines, which means only playing slots that have the same payout ratio for all levels of play. What I mean is if you play 3 dimes or (30 cents) the jackpot would be exactly 3 times the jackpot than if you had bet 1 dime. Standard deviation slot strategy only works on slot machines that have this “equal ratio” play. You must also look for high percentage payout slots to begin with. Your aim should be to hunt down high percentage ratio slot to play on as this also increases your yield rate, try to find a machine with about 98% payout percentage to minimise the house edge.

The standard deviation works by counting the number of turns it takes for a payout to pay off. How it works: you should start with the minimum amount of coins in order to spin the reels and play, then count every spin until you win. For simplicity we will use 10 wins and dont forget to use a notepad to jot the numbers down. So spin the reels until you have achieved 10 wins. Noting down how many spins it takes to achieve each win. so your notepad could read somthing like 3,11,17,9,20,7,12,14,31,5. Those would be the number of spins between each win, so on the first attempt it took 2 spins and you won on the third spin, the second it took 10 spins and you won on the 11th making 11 your second number.

Now take a look at the sequence we add all those numbers together and divide it by the number of wins we are trying to find the average for. In this case its 10 wins, so 129 divided by 10 is 12.9. 12.9 is our standard deviation. If we were then hoping to find an optimum point in which to try and win we would play big money or “maximum coins” around the 13th reel spin. I personally would suggest playing maximum chips between 10 – 15 spins and spread the average. This is by no means a fool proof method. But helps give you a mathmatical formula inwhich to work with.

Hope that helps in anyway, and remember anyone offering a winning formula or slot machine strategy “secrets” that guarantee you vast amounts of money is talking utter crap and are only after one thing and thats your money. Sad but true. Good luck and play safe !

Question: Do I owe income taxes on slot machine winnings?

Answer: Yes.

You owe income taxes anytime you collect income, which includes gambling winnings. The good news is that you can also deduct the money you spent gambling. But you can only deduct your spending up to the amount of your winnings.

Federal income tax laws require casinos to withhold income taxes anytime you hit a jackpot amounting to over $1,199.00. The casino will send you a 1099 form to report with your filing.

This withholding only applies per jackpot, and not cumulative winnings across multiple games.

Because most people don’t keep track of how much money they put into a slot machine, you need to get yourself a player’s card for the casino you’re playing at. The player’s card will keep track of how much money you spent, and earned. You can simply call up the casino, give them the number on your player’s card, and they’ll send you a paper report of what you spent and earned.

The paper report, of course, will also show the winnings that amounted to less than $1,199, meaning the IRS will tax you on every penny you won. But at least you can offset that with the money you spent.

If anything, it’s good idea to play with a player’s card just in case you hit a big jackpot.
